United Healthcare Mental Health and Addiction Resources
UHC addiction treatment starts with their Behavioral Health Division. This division is dedicated to people who want to talk about addiction or mental health disorders. They are available at any time, and you can call them directly to get a confidential discussion about treatment options, coverage, and an in-network United Healthcare drug and alcohol rehab center.
Barring that, you can get a diagnosis and referral for co-occurring mental health disorders or addiction during your yearly preventative care visits. Your doctor should screen for addiction or mental health disorders during that time and offer additional counseling and resources where necessary.
Don’t be afraid to act. If you need help, you don’t have to wait for an annual appointment. Arista’s intake team is standing by.
Does United Healthcare Cover Drug and Alcohol Rehab?
United Healthcare covers substance abuse, but how much is covered and where depends on your policy. In general, you can get UHC addiction treatment for:
- Medication-assisted detox
- Outpatient detox
- Inpatient rehab
- Outpatient alcohol and drug rehab
Note: Some United Healthcare policies have pre-certification requirements, such as only getting United Healthcare addiction treatment in the midwest from an in-network facility.
UHC Policies
UHC has three policy levels:
- UnitedHealthcare Choice: This has coverage for nearly nine hundred thousand providers but no coverage for out-of-network providers.
- UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus: This has coverage for in-network UHC addiction treatment providers and limited coverage for out-of-network providers.
- UnitedHealthcare Options PPO: This has coverage for in-network providers and a lot of savings on costs for out-of-network providers.
Note: For two of their programs, you can still pick a facility that is outside of your network, but it will cost you much more out of pocket and come with a higher co-pay.
The type of policy you have is directly related to your costs for treatment. The UnitedHealthcare Choice plan is the most affordable for monthly co-pays. However, this does mean it has a higher deductible and more limited coverage. The higher deductible refers to how much money you must pay out of pocket before your insurance covers the remaining costs.
Every policy works differently in terms of how much you might have to pay and what items are covered regardless of deductible. Certain things like outpatient care and medications might be covered regardless of deductible, but you still have to pay your co-pay, a figure that should be listed on the back of your insurance card or easily accessible in your insurance account.
Inpatient UHC drug rehab might be covered if you choose an in-network facility, but this comes down to your plan type. Even if your insurance provider does not cover the full cost, some aspects of your treatment, like certain therapy services and medications, might still be paid for by your insurance provider.
United Healthcare addiction treatment in the midwest is typically covered, but the length of time and deductibles will vary based on your plans. For example, with the UnitedHealthcare Choice plan, you might have to pay between twenty percent and thirty percent of the total outpatient program costs after reaching your deductible. If you receive traditional outpatient programs and only meet once or twice weekly, you might pay up to fifty dollars per visit for a co-pay.
United Healthcare drug rehab in the midwest usually involves medication for detox and ongoing treatment. Medications like anti-anxiety prescriptions or antidepressants might be given for coexisting mental health disorders or to help you with your initial withdrawal. Your insurance plan usually covers medications, but you might still have to pay your regular co-pay or prescription medication minimum.
Arista can help you determine what coverage you have and what co-pays remain.

Arista Recovery Takes UnitedHealthcare
If you are ready for treatment and you have UHC, you can work with our team. We accept your insurance and can review the benefits you have in order to make an effective and cost-effective recommendation.
If you are struggling with addiction, you might need medication-assisted treatment for your detox. Our intake team can verify your UHC drug rehab benefits and help you start to detox. Medication-assisted treatment is often recommended for:
- Alcoholism
- Addiction to opioids
- Addiction to benzodiazepines
These substances come with severe withdrawal symptoms, risks of medical complications, and ongoing cravings. So, your United Healthcare addiction treatment might include FDA-approved medications to help alleviate some of the more severe symptoms, reduce cravings, and maintain your sobriety long-term.
Our intake team might recommend intensive outpatient treatment at a midwest United Healthcare drug and alcohol rehab center. Inpatient or residential care offers constant supervision and support. It is designed for people with severe addictions or co-occurring mental health disorders. With our UHC Midwest addiction treatment, you can participate in 30-day, 60-day, or 90-day residential programs.
If you need flexible treatment options or ongoing support groups after completing an inpatient program, you can continue your care at our midwest United Healthcare drug and alcohol rehab center.
We offer short-term partial hospitalization programs as well as intensive outpatient programs, both of which can serve as viable alternatives to traditional residential programs if you don’t have the time or flexibility to live full-time at our facility. As you step down in your care and need less demanding support but still want to receive ongoing services, you can continue UHC midwest addiction treatment with traditional outpatient care.
Arista provides multiple levels of outpatient care that can be partially or fully covered by United Healthcare drug rehab. Our intake team can review your insurance policy and help you understand which benefits apply to UHC drug rehab and which, if any, costs remain.
